Second summary table feels arbitrary
[edit]Do we really need the second summary table at the bottom? It ranks countries by the number of subdivisions they have on the page (which lists the top 380), which is a completely arbitrary bar to meet. If the list were longer, eventually Slovenia and its 212 občine would pull out on top, just because it has the most total subdivisions. Why do we need this table at all? I could understand if it included number of subdivisions within a certain size range, but right now it's completely silly. iRDM 05:21, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
Area
[edit]To help reduce clutter: Instead of stating the unit of area (square kilometer, km2) at the top of each table; how about we just state, at the top of the relevant column, "Area (km2)", so that we don't hav to keep stating the unit? Solomonfromfinland (talk) 00:26, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Australian divisions and rank within state
[edit]Something is off about the Australian states. The table lists Western Australia as the second-largest subdivision in the world, but then also lists it as the second-largest within Australia. Surely it should be #1 within Australia? All the other Australian states that follow are also one rank lower down than they should be within that column. 66.223.242.150 (talk) 18:00, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- The table appears to have been edited to partially correct the mistake, but only as far as the Northern Territory (3rd largest within Australia). After that, South Australia is still listed as 5th largest in Australia but should be 4th; and New South Wales is listed as 6th largest in Australia but should be 5th. 86.24.76.77 (talk) 11:12, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Why does Greenland count?
[edit]It shouldn't. 2601:249:1A80:22E0:19FD:35F3:76E4:96F9 (talk) 16:26, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
To those that keep putting unofficial flags and seals
[edit]Don't know why you keep putting unofficial stuff on this list, this page loses credibility all of a sudden, like putting an east turkestan flag and a tibet flag on the autonomous regions like really? It almost seems like you're praying for China's downfall lol. These autonomous regions have no official flags and somehow you just can't abide by it. 120.29.68.252 (talk) 05:16, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say the page "loses credibility", but I am not sure if it is necessary to include unofficial flags. Mellk (talk) 13:55, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Odd hyperbole aside, this list shouldn't have "unofficial flags". That's a meaningless category of just most flags. CMD (talk) 14:19, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, it is not even complete here. Best to leave it as N/A like the others. Mellk (talk) 14:33, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have removed them, but there are probably some unofficial flags/seals that are still included as they were not marked as unofficial. For example, Inner Mongolia has this flag, but this is for the Inner Mongolian People's Party. Mellk (talk) 15:04, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking this on. Conversely to your note, I suspect the Somaliland flag, which was marked as unofficial, is actually official. CMD (talk) 15:41, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have restored the Somaliland one for now and removed the Inner Mongolia one. I will take a look later on to see if there are any others that are missing or should be removed.
- Regarding Somaliland, I find it interesting that the Somali government website includes this flag, even though it was adopted after Somaliland declared independence. But I guess this is good enough to include it here as well. Mellk (talk) 16:14, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Every dispute is unique. Looking through, South African provinces have coats of arms (Coat of arms of South Africa#1994–present) and the Emblem of Arunachal Pradesh seems to fit the inclusion bill. I am unfamiliar with the status of the CoAs of the States of Nigeria. CMD (talk) 23:46, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
